Yabba Dabba Doo!
The Alan Reed Story
REVIEW:

"Clip-filled tribute to a master character actor"

BUY THIS TITLE

"A lively tribute to the life of character actor and cartoon voice Alan Reed, spiced by background music and audio clips of radio/TV shows and movies. Most of it is read by Alan Reed Jr. (whose father had died in 1977) but there are some bits spoken by Reed himself from 1970s interviews. Joe Barbera is heard commenting on Alan's work with The Flintstones (as Fred) and the creation of the series. Bill Marx narrates some letters Fred Allen wrote to Reed.

Teddy Bergman, later to become Alan Reed, was determined to be a stage actor, including a job in Oklahoma City and a dramatic academy. He found his way into what we now call old time radio (comedy/drama) and there are many clips of hilarious or dramatic moments from Baby Snooks, The Shadow, Fred Allen (where he did the Falstaff character), The Mel Blanc Show (an early partnership, years before they played Fred and Barney). Movie clips, too, and it's amazing to hear all the parts Alan played over the years. Joe Bevilacqua, who turns up doing some narration, puts in backing music and various clips which make this a nostalgia trip into the Golden Age of Radio. I really enjoyed all the clips, the inside info, and the journey into the life of a skillful character actor--the man who decided the best way to express Fred Flintstone's exuberance at life was to shout out, "Yabba Dabba Doo!"

The Best of Cartoon Carnival, Volume 2: The Holiday Specials REVIEW:

"Hey everybody, it’s time for more cartoony fun with The Best of Cartoon Carnival Volume 2 – The Holiday Specials!

The husband and wife team of Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg are at their all-time silliest in this collection of holiday material. Joe and Lorie can do so many unique voices that I sometimes wonder how they can remember which is their real voice. There’s way too much material on this 10 hour collection to cover all at once, but here are some of the February-appropriate highlights:

For Valentine’s Day, Joe and Lorie treat us to some clips from classic cartoons characters such as Charlie Brown, Bugs Bunny, Pepe le Pew, and Popeye. Those are a lot of fun, but what I enjoy most is Joe and Lorie’s own creations such as the Camp Waterlogg Chronicles. Listen in as Sergeant Lefty tries to get his sweetheart, Olive Pitts, to go to the dance with him. And if that isn’t enough for you, you’ll also hear a real live college professor explain the mathematics of love and romance. If there’s one thing that puts me in the mood for love, it’s mathematics.

Let’s see, what else comes in February? Oh yes, President’s Day! Joe and Lorie haven’t forgotten this all-important day in their holiday collection. You’ll hear from more classics like Bugs Bunny and Kermit the Frog. One of my favorites from the President’s Day collection was an old bit by Bob Newhart where he mocks up a telephone call between Abraham Lincoln and his press agent. Some funny stuff there. And, of course, we get some original work from Joe and Lorie in a truly funny scene with George Washington and his wife Martha. Who would have thought those two would bicker so much at home.

And that’s just the tip of Cupid’s love-tinged arrow. This holiday collection has material for just about every holiday on the calendar including Independence Day, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and of course Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. It’s more than 10 hours of cartoony fun with all the best from Joe and Lorie."

We Take You Now to Grover's Mill: REVIEW:

"In 1988, award-winning journalist and voiceover artist Joe Bevilacqua created this thirty-minute special for NPR in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the historic event. It is available now as an audio download for the first time. Contained herein are exclusive interviews with John Houseman, who produced the program, Howard Koch, who was the primary writer of the radio script, and Arthur Anderson, one of the primary actors. You’ll learn about Orson Welles’ involvement in the project. You’ll also hear interviews and commentaries from real-live people who lived in and around the Grover’s Mill area relating their memories of the event, not to mention several clips from the original broadcast itself.

This thirty-minute feature is packed with more information and entertainment than you can shake a heat ray at. Don’t miss out on a unique behind-the-scenes look at one of the more fascinating pieces of American history and pop-culture."

The New Stories of Old-Time Radio: Volume One REVIEW:

"If you yearn for simpler times and your moral compass is set straight, you’ll definitely enjoy this new collection from Waterlogg Prod.. Give it a try!"

"The enthusiasm of the writers and their respect for the period is infectious."
(Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine)

"Joe Bevilacqua is an amazingly talented actor and producer who brings these stories to life! You will think you are listening to actual old time radio!"
(Jim Harmon, OTR historian and author)

"Are you a fan of old-time radio? Do you wish they were still making those wonderful programs so you wouldn’t have to keep listening to the same old episodes again and again? Do you poop out at parties? Do you wish I would stop asking so many questions? Well wish no more o traveler of the airwaves. From Joe Bevilacqua and his Waterlogg Productions, the vita-veeta-vegemin of old-time radio, comes this echo from a bygone era. "It’s The New Stories of Old-Time Radio! That’s right, creator, writer, and narrator Joe Bev has taken some of his own favorite radio programs, and created brand new episodes for all of us to enjoy.

"Contained in this set are all original episodes of Our Miss Brooks, Tom Mix, Candy Matson Yukon 2-8209, The Clyde Beatty Show, The Green Llama, and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon. "Assisting Joe Bevilacqua on the narrating duties, is his wife and creative partner Lorie Kellogg. With these two working together, you really don’t need anyone else. They can create more unique voices between the two of them than you can shake a radio at."

Ancient Rising
REVIEW:

"Ancient Rising is a non-stop thrill ride through the world of the ancients."

"This audio production of Ancient Rising is touted as a '3-D Audiobook Experience.' I was pretty curious about that; what is a 3-D audiobook anyway? Well, it didn’t take me long to find out. Ancient Rising is performed, and I do mean performed, by long-time theater and radio talent Joe Bevilacqua. Don’t confuse him with other Joe Bevilacqua’s, the name is Joe K Bevilacqua. Joe does great voices for all the characters, and the whole thing is recorded in stereo. The main narration comes through the center channel as usual, but the character voices, along with sound effect enhancements, come from the left or right channels, giving the audiobook a real 3-D feel. With Joe’s voices, the sound enhancements, and the 3-D recording, this is a top-notch audio production. Ancient Rising is a non-stop thrill ride through the world of the ancients. I found De La Torre’s blend of history and mythology to be fascinating and compelling. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this one."

Pedro's Fables:
Halloween Stories
REVIEW:

"Kids will immediately identify with the funny and crazy voices of Joe and Lorie. I always get a kick out of listening to them myself; they always remind me of the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch as a kid."

"Spanish children’s author Pedro Pablo Sacristan is back with 10 more of his delightful children’s stories, all translated into English. And appropriate for the season, these ten stories all have a Halloween theme. Goblins, ghosts, witches, fairies, and monsters abound in these silly and scary tales that will become instant favorites with children and parents alike.

"These stories are narrated by the husband and wife team of Lorie Kellogg and Joe Bevilacqua. This is exactly the kind of work these two were made for. Kids will immediately identify with the funny and crazy voices of Joe and Lorie. I always get a kick out of listening to them myself; they always remind me of the Saturday morning cartoons I used to watch as a kid.

"Halloween doesn’t have to be evil and scary. With these Spanish Halloween Stories for Children, you and your kids can enjoy the lighter side of All Hallow’s Eve.!"

Pedro's Fables:
25 Children’s Stories
REVIEW:

"Your children will delight in these winsome and fanciful tales."

"From Joe Bevilacqua and Waterlogg Productions, comes this charming collection of 25 Spanish Children’s Stories by Pedro Pablo Sacristan. I was kind of curious to know what kind of fairy tales Spanish children listen to, but guess what, they’re very much like the fairy tales that any other children listen to. It just goes to show you, people are people no matter where they are. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.

"The husband and wife narrating team of Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg were made for this type of narration. Their clever and funny caricatures are sure to bring a smile to the faces of any who listen. More importantly, their multitude of cartoonish voices, much like the voices your children hear every Saturday morning, are sure to draw, and hold, your kids’ attention for the entire hour and forty-five minute collection. In addition, the stories are enhanced with music and sound effects, making it even more like watching a cartoon in your mind. The sound quality and production are very top-notch."

Daws Butler’s
Halloween Happening
REVIEW:

"If you haven’t heard these two at work, you’re missing out on something special."

"If there was an award for best husband and wife narrating team, I think the clear winners would be Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg. Come to think of it, why isn’t there an award for best husband and wife narrating team? Somebody needs to look into that. Anyway, individually, Joe an Lorie are both extremely talented voice artists. They can both do lots of entertaining voices, not just characterizations but whole personalities, and they both have a fine flair for drama, satire, and comedy. Put them together and, well, need I say more? If you haven’t heard these two at work, you’re missing out on something special.

"If you’re looking for a little light listening to get you in the mood for Halloween, look no further. The audio team of Daws Butler, Lorie Kellogg, and Joe Bevilacqua have got you covered. Hey, at only 45 minutes, you could listen to this on the way to your own Halloween party!"

The Misadventures
of Sherlock Holmes
REVIEW:

"Fans of the legendary figure of Sherlock Holmes are sure to get a kick out of this."

"...Arthur Conan Doyle spent many years recounting the adventures of the world’s greatest detective, but now the truth is revealed. In these dramatic and hilarious episodes, we find an aging Dr. Watson, finally setting the record straight in the form of his personal journal. "In episode 1, The Mystery of the Creepy Hack Writer, we learn that Sherlock Holmes was a beggar on the streets when Dr. Watson took pity and invited him to stay at his flat on Baker Street. Furthermore, it is revealed that Holmes is little more than a bumbling fool who couldn’t solve his way out of a wet paper bag. Presently, Watson is approached by a hack writer by the name of Arthur Conan Doyle who strikes a deal with Watson. They will co-write a series of detective stories featuring Sherlock Holmes. Of course no one will want to read about a blithering idiot, so they will make Holmes out to be a master of deductive reasoning. These full-cast audio productions include the voice talents of Vernon Morris as Sherlock Holmes, Henry J. Quinn as Dr. John Watson, Jan Meredith as Miss Hudson, Ed Hyland as Professor Moriarty, and William Gillette as Arthur Conan Doyle. Other voice artists include Terry Price, Gwendolyn Lewis, B. H. Barry, and Joe Bevilacqua. Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with these names, their voice characterizations are as good as any you’ll hear. The humor is sometimes campy and sometimes rather clever and subtle. And the acting and sound effects are of the highest quality.

Uncle Dunkle and Donnie REVIEW:

"This is 5 hours of listening pleasure that you won’t regret."

"Any cartoon fan can recognize Daws Butler's multitude of voices, but few know of his writing. Butler, a purveyor of witty wordplay and twisty tales, will surprise and amuse readers. These stories now come to life as told by the hilarious Joe Bevilacqua, man of 97 voices!" (Linda Simensky, Senior Director of Programming for PBS Kids) " It all started with Daws Butler - actor, writer, teacher - writing Uncle Dunkle and Donnie children's stories with exquisite, sophisticated humor but always resonating with gentle and subtle lessons in morality. Then came Joe Bevilacqua - also and actor, writer and producer - vocally bringing to life all of the charming characters in the Daws Butler book. Reading and listening to Uncle Dunkle and Donnie is a delightful experience that you and your family can and will enjoy!" (June Foray, legendary voice actress whose characters include Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Witch Hazel, and Granny) "In Uncle Dunkle and Donnie, Joe Bevilacqua conducts an absolute clinic on the art of voice acting. Bevilacqua voices all 97 of the characters in these 35 episodes. His voices are unique and are delivered flawlessly. And he also writes stories and music! This is quite a talented guy. As with Joe Bev’s other Waterlogg Productions, the music and sound effects are well done, and the sound quality is very good. Hey, do yourself a favor, and take a break from the murder mysteries and vampire stories for a while. Sit back and let the old pros entertain you. This is 5 hours of listening pleasure that you won’t regret."

Old-time Radio Parodies
REVIEW:

"We’re talking three hours of non-stop laughs here. Don’t miss out!"

"Fans of old-time radio classics are in for a real treat. From Joe Bevilacqua and his Waterlogg Productions, makers of the hilarious Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Uncle Dunkle and Donnie, comes volume 2 in the Best of the Comedy-o-Rama Hour. And it couldn’t come at a better time. The current trend in audiobooks is the revitalization of the classic radio program, and all the publishers are doing it. From Doc Savage, to The Black Mask, to NPR’s Car Talk, it seems that America is rediscovering the joys of the spoken word. And Joe Bev is adding some very worthwhile products to the market. Old-time Radio Parodies is up to the usual Waterlogg Productions high standards, featuring a full cast of talented voice actors, and cinema quality music and sound effects. I promise you’ll never be disappointed with how a Waterlogg Production sounds. They even have parodies of commercials like Shouty-O’s (shout for Shouty-O’s!) cereal, and Blue Coal Tires (the only tires you can burn in your furnace after they go flat). We’re talking three hours of non-stop laughs here. Don’t miss out!"
